April 25 (Reuters) - Grupo Televisa, Mexico's largest broadcaster, on Tuesday reported net earnings that swung to a loss over the first three months of 2023, as revenues slumped in its satellite TV unit, Sky.

Televisa posted a first quarter loss of 789 million pesos ($43.8 million), down from the 52.6 billion pesos net profit it reported a year earlier, from revenues that edged down 0.5% to 18.52 billion pesos.

Televisa attributed the slump to a 215,000 drop in its revenue generating units (RGUs) - an industry term for business or individual subscribers - over the quarter at Sky, bringing the unit's sales down nearly 12%.

The firm's cable business segment, however, added about 314,500 RGUs in over the quarter and 84,700 broadband net additions, Televisa said, bringing the unit's sales up by close to 3%.
