Retail earnings have signaled slowdowns in consumer spending for late 2023. Investopedia Editor-In-Chief Caleb Silver joins Yahoo Finance Live to discuss how investors are reacting to consumer spending trends, such as on travel experiences.
"People have also been spending in and around their home and their home experience trying to get that ready for the fall, for the back-to-school season," Silver says. "Investors, again, on the fence, should they stay or should they go? It's kind of a Clash moment for a lot of investors wondering which direction the market's going to go. When the stock market has such a strong first half of the year like we had, it produces what we call the wealth effect."
Silver also comments on credit card spending in retailers and grocery stores, and how big-ticket producers like Tesla (TSLA) are enacting price action to entice consumers.
