Nearly 5,000 commercial pilots are under investigation by the FAA for withholding mental health concerns, among other ailments, that could bar them from flying. Boyd Group International President Mike Boyd joins Yahoo Finance Live to discuss the safeguards in place to monitor pilots, including their own labor unions.
"Now, we have systems if a pilot is fired at one airline, there's basically a database that will tell another airline what happened there, supposedly," Boyd says. "It's getting better, but we're dealing with humans."
Boyd details the pressure working pilots may be feeling under labor shortages and the counseling services that airlines and unions offer.
