U.S. employers added 187,000 jobs in August, while the unemployment rate ticked higher to 3.8%. Acting U.S. Labor Secretary Julie Su says the fact that more people are entering the labor market is a "sign of optimism," noting that it did result in an increase in the unemployment rate. The fact that the rate is still under 4% is "a sign of strong, stable growth that we would want in a strong economy," Su tells Yahoo Finance Live. When it comes the threat of a UAW strike against the Big Three automakers (GM, F, STLA), Su says both she and President Biden believe in the collective bargaining process and "part of that is allowing the parties to do what they need to do, respecting that process, and encouraging them to stay at the table, which we want to see."
